Marlyse Vilela Loureiro
Fitness Instructor, www,marlysezumba.com
My name is Marlyse Loureiro. I am originally from Brazil and I migrated to Canada 12 years ago with my family. Even though I have a business degree from Brazil, I had to reinvent myself due to the language struggle. Keeping in mind my love for music and dance, I followed my passion and became a Zumba fitness instructor. I am also a mother of two beautiful girls and a wife to a wonderful and a supportive husband. Although I have lived in Moncton for 11 years, growing up in a rich-filled culture like Brazil fuelled my passion of bringing the same atmosphere here; which I am able to do through Zumba. I love fitness and have based my lifestyle around a balanced healthy lifestyle for myself, my family and my loving students.
What are you most proud of professionally? And who or why?
I am most proud of creating Zumba in Pink, a yearly fundraiser for the Breast Imaging Clinic for the Moncton Hospital. With the grand involvement of my participants, we have raised over $25,000. I have the best team someone could ask for.
What's your vision for Atlantic Canada in 10 years? What’s our biggest opportunity now?
My vision for Atlantic Canada is to become a place people seek for better life quality - a place that thrives off healthy living styles for all people. This would enrich professional opportunities and help families raise the quality of life throughout Atlantic Canada.
What's your favourite or most read book or podcast?
My favorite book was Mindless because it helped me learn the importance of focusing your energy on the present. It is important to live in the moment; instead of letting your life go by without living it, you awaken to experience.
What's your deepest learning from this past year? How did/will you apply it?
Give what you want to receive. The universe works paradoxically, living in joy creates joyful outcomes.
Who's inspired you, directly or indirectly? How have they inspired you?
My family is always my safe harbor, they are my inspiration and support to do my work and continue doing it every single day.
My "Bonitas", who are the participants in my zumba classes - translated from my native language Portuguese to signify pretties. Each individual Bonita inspires me to be the best version of myself, accept and love others for all their differences and similarities. This inspires me to help them physically and mentally through my works.
What are the principles you live by?
Live your best life to the fullest every single day, there may not be a tomorrow. Focus your energy on the positives and yourself - healthy balances physically and mentally are essential.
And lastly, what goes around comes around; when you give compassion, you open to receive it.
