I had another career and became very unhappy. I left that job to pursue a masters degree. Once I achieved that I started gaining my confidence and motivation back. That’s when I pursued one of my dreams to produce and host a television show. I pitched Eastlink executives and my show Small Talk, Big Ideas was born. I discovered I have a passion and talent for bringing stories to life and shining a light on them. That then inspired my media and communications company, Tanya Media. It’s a platform where I utilize all my education and experience to assist organizations and individuals to claim their space in front of their key audiences.

What are you most proud of professionally? And who or why?
It makes me so happy and fulfilled to see a client proud and light up when I pull out their unique story and share it with the world. They realize that they truly are gifted and have something valuable to contribute.
What’s your vision for Atlantic Canada in 10 years? What’s our biggest opportunity now?
My vision for Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada is for it to be a leader on the global stage in terms of successful entrepreneurs, tech companies, 100% clean renewable energy and true gender equality in all sectors and facets of society.
What was your greatest stage of growth? What made it a shift for you?
My greatest stage of growth is right now. The shift happened when I truly conquered my fears. Fear keeps you from reaching your potential. Once you take that leap forward it’s amazing the people and opportunities that start to appear.
What’s your favourite or most read book or podcast? Now or at each of your greatest stages of growth?
Most recently it’s a business book called Double Double (no connection to Tim Horton’s!). Anything is possible when you have a vision for your company and stay connected to that vision.
What’s your deepest learning from this past year? How did/will you apply it?
My deepest learning is that you can’t ignore your instinct. I made a decision last year that I knew in my heart I shouldn’t have made and it turned out to be a horrible situation. It ultimately made me stronger but it was a tough lesson. Always listen to your gut instinct it will never steer you wrong.
Who’s inspired you, directly or indirectly? How have they inspired you?
Strong women inspire me everyday. Especially the ones who created something from nothing and who support and uplift other women. They are my superheroes!
What would you have done differently?
The only thing I would change is that I wish I pushed through the fear sooner!
What are the principles you live by?
In my life I live by the principles of integrity, honour and compassion. In my business it’s the same as the above in addition to authenticity and complete dedication to making my clients happy.
